(Vice) Commodore’s Report
With Rob and Pam rambling around the South Island at the moment I am stepping into Rob’s shoes for a brief moment.  If the photos up on Facebook are anything to go by it looks as if Rob and Pam are having an amazing time exploring NZ in their new car.
April has been a quiet time for sailing with credit to D’accord and Mouette getting out on the water over Easter.  Thanks to the Proberts for having an impromptu burger night at their place when the ANZAC weekend sailing was cancelled.
ANZAC was the last of the organised sailing events of 2021 and the weather is starting to feel a wee bit cooler.  The social contingent of the committee met and have drafted up a Winter Social Programme.  This will be shared at the AGM for thoughts and ideas.
Stay safe out there, on land and water.
Barbara

AND THE WINNER!  WELL DONE MARION

This month’s bad joke

I just discovered my age group!  I am a Seenager. (Senior teenager)
I have everything that I wanted as a teenager, only 50-60 years later.
I don't have to go to school or work
I get an allowance every month.
I have my own pad.

I don't have a curfew.
I have a driver's license and my own car.
And I don't have acne.
Life is Good!  Also, you will feel much more intelligent after reading this, if you are a Seenager.
Brains of older people are slow because they know so much.
People do not decline mentally with age, it just takes them longer to recall facts because they have
more information in their brains.
Scientists believe this also makes you hard of hearing as it puts pressure on your inner ear.
Also, older people often go to another room to get something and when they get there, they stand
there wondering what they came for.
It is NOT a memory problem, it is nature's way of making older people do more exercise.
It is NOT a memory problem, it is nature's way of making older people do more exercise.
SO THERE!!
I have friends I should send this to, but right now I can't remember their names.

Nautical History
BOW AND STERN

The word ‘stern’ probably came to English from the Viking raiders in the the 8th and later centuries. It originated with the Old Norse word ‘styra’, (to steer) which became ‘stjorn’ (steering) becoming ‘styrne’ in Old English and thence ‘stern’ in Middle English.
The connection is that the stern is where a ship was steered from in the days of sail.
The word ‘bow’ for the front part of a ship comes from Germanic roots. In German the word ‘Bogen’ means ‘bend’, ‘bow’ or ‘arch’. In Old English this was ‘boga’ and in Modern English ‘bow’.
Calling the front part of the ship a ‘bow’ is because in Medieval ships the strakes (planks) of the ship had to be bent or ‘bowed’ to make the curved or ‘bowed’ part of the ship, a shape that cut through the water most efficiently.

                                 TOILET PAPER TEST

Picture
1. Purex 24 pack $9.00
2.Earth care 12 pack $5.00 (both available from the supermarkets,)

3. Camp soft 4 pack $10.00 Burnsco

After 8 days all 3 have softened up but no signs of dissolving yet.

After 45 days no change from day 8 on all three.
I for one after this will not be putting any paper into my holding tank. No 1s go into the tank, paper goes over the side, luckily my system allows me to do that.
It would seem that all these fancy expensive dissolving paper are no different from the normal cheap stuff.

Jane & I were off-the-water for most of March - tramping in Kahurangi National Park in the South Island.
We walked the Heaphy Track and spent some time in the Mt Arthur - Cobb Valley area.
All organised and booked last year before we had a yacht.  We hope to catch up on-the-water in April.
