Rob’s Ramblings – aka Commodore’s Report
It has been a quite month with not much on the water action but a well-attended Easter BBQ at Bill and Liz’s.  Pam and I have been a bit Covid isolated over the past month and, touch wood, Covid free but have had some close contacts.  My sister, kids, and grandkids in Dunedin have all had Covid caught at different places including kids bringing it home from schools.
Pam, Karen and I also attended an AYBA presentation on the Glenfern Sanctuary at Fitzroy https://www.glenfern.org.nz/ and are keen to visit it next summer.  Some members participated in the Milford CC monthly quiz night and had a good time with teams with club members coming 3rd and 4th. We had a good outing to see T Rex at Auckland Museum last week.  There are also a couple of trips away planned for later in May and we will be on at least one of them. 
It is good to see the messenger app is working extremely well and people getting together on some of the more planned trips as well as the informal ones.  Hopefully we have seen the back of Covid and can get out and about a bit more.
As previously discussed, we would like to spend some time at the AGM on 25 June 2022, to discuss how we can best meet the needs of members.    Have a think about how you would like that to happen and share your thought at the AGM so the incoming committee can consider it.
Please think about what you would like to see the club do, also consider volunteering to organise an event for a specific day, and consider becoming a committee member.  Our AGM is a little over a month away.

meats and some wines and beers provided please bring either a veggie or dessert dish ( please coordinate this with Lis so we don’t double up) Be prepared for one of Rob quiz’s after.

Feeling Blue
If you are sad and describe yourself as "feeling blue," you are using a phrase coined
from a custom among many old deepwater sailing ships. If the ship lost the captain or
any of the officers during its voyage, she would fly blue flags and have a blue band
painted along her entire hull when returning to home port.

Forecastle
The appropriate pronunciation for this word is fo'ksul. The forecastle is the forward part of the main deck. It derives its name from the days of Viking galleys when wooden castles were built on the forward and after parts the main deck from which archers and other fighting men could shoot arrows and throw spears, rocks, etc.
 
Even worst bad joke of the month
 
The pilot sat up in his seat and casually pulled out a 38 revolver from his flight bag. He placed it on top of the instrument panel, and then turning to the navigator asked, "Do you know what this is for?"
The navigator nervously replied, "No, what is that for?"
The pilot responded, "I use this on navigators who get me lost!"
The navigator nodded and proceeded to pull out a .45 and place it on his chart table.
The pilot asked, "What's that for?"
"To be honest sir," replied the navigator, "I'll know when we're lost before you will."
